I am the one on the right.
I am a retired School Master (Nancy Mitford would have liked me to use the term) living in glorious seclusion in suburban South London. What more can I say? Oh yes! Born in Quetta, Baluchistan, which was part of India in the days of The (British) Raj; then during Partition, became part of West Pakistan and is now part of modern-day Pakistan. As my father always said to me, "Don't forget, you're a Baluch, my boy". Brought up in West Australia and then "returned" to the UK where I have taken up a repectable life. So I suppose I'm a bit of a Sandgroper (West Autralian) laced with overtones of Anglo Indian/Paki... and proud of it.
As a result of, and following my Dedicated Service to the Community (I say this, proudly holding my personal banner on high. On it is emblazoned my Family Motto, handed down to me by almost one generation: “Meus Lingua in Meus Letifico”), I presently sit on the Board of Governors of Twilight Lawns plc, Care Facility and Retirement Home for Impecunious Ladies and Gentlemen of Decent Class, which is situated in Norbury-sur-Mer, Surrey.
In my capacity as one of the Governors of this wonderfully caring establishment, I am privy to many of the charming and interesting incidents which make up the year of the Home.
Here and there in my blog I will give some account of the happenings at the Home. Those of my Readers who find these of interest are invited to visit the home, whether in the comfort of their armchairs before their computer screen, or, following a written request to Mrs Hilda Plantagenet Featheringstonehaugh (Matron), or Charge Nurse Smythe.
These Good Ladies will arrange an appointment for those interested parties.
Whether as a Visitor, as a Relative, or as a Prospective Resident, all are welcome. But one must make this simple stipulation:
Please! Only Persons of Decent Class need apply
